Next Week is Spirit Week at BCE

Spirit Week is next week — October 3-7, 2016 — and here is all the information you’ll need to know:

SPIRIT DAYS
Monday: Hat Day
Tuesday: Wear Your Clothes Inside Out Day
Wednesday: Neon Day
Thursday: Crazy Sock Day
Friday: Battle Creek Day

Additionally, Back-to-School night will be held on Tuesday, October 4, and Jog-a-Thon will be held on Friday, October 7.

Start Collecting Your Jog-A-Thon Pledges!

As you may have noticed, this year’s Jog-A-Thon donation envelopes and general info sheets went home with children in their Monday folders on Monday, September 26, 2016 (so check your kids’ backpacks if you haven’t yet seen these materials!  ).

This year’s Jog-A-Thon event is scheduled for Friday, October 7, 2016.

We will have a lot of volunteer opportunities for the event itself — COME CHECK THEM OUT RIGHT HERE, AT OUR ONLINE SIGN-UP FORM!*

In addition to volunteering at the event, however… you can also help with this fundraiser simply by helping your child participate in the fundraising portion of the event. Jog-A-Thon donations are tax-deductible and 100% of the money earned goes directly to supporting Battle Creek Elementary School programs (including library, PE, music, art, science, field trips, and technology).

This year’s schedule for Jog-A-Thon fundraising is as follows:

  • Sept 26–Oct 13, 2016 — sign-up pledges and collect money
  • Oct 7, 2016 — Jog-A-Thon (held at Battle Creek Elementary during the school day; see schedule)
  • Oct 13, 2016 — Last day to return pledge envelopes and money!

The schedule of events for Jog-A-Thon itself (on Oct 7) will be as follows:

  • 9:25am–10:10am — 4th/5th grades
  • 10:20am–11:05am — 3rd grade
  • 11:15am–12:00noon — 2nd grade
  • 1:30pm–2:10pm — Kindergarten
  • 2:25pm–3:10pm — 1st grade & SCIP

*PARENTS WHO WISH TO VOLUNTEER… please note that to volunteer at this event (or any event involving BCE’s students), you must first have completed the Salem-Keizer school district’s criminal background check form (and received approval). Family Fun Night Scheduled for October 21, 2016

The first family fun night of the 2016-17 school year has been scheduled for Friday, October 21, 2016 — from 6:30–8:00pm.

The event will have a Pirate Carnival theme, and will be held at Battle Creek Elementary School. Some of the games will include “coconut bowling,” “sink the ship,” “walk the plank,” “musical islands,” “feed the crocodile,” and “catch the shark.” There will also be a photo booth.

Kids (and parents!) are encouraged to come dressed up as pirates, with a reminder that weapons of any kind may not be part of any costume. NO WEAPONS WHATSOVER, PLEASE! 

August & September Dates to Remember

  • August 15 — office opens to the public
  • September 6 — Open House (4:00–5:30pm)
    …come meet your student’s teacher, bring in student school supplies, and enjoy our ice cream social
  • September 7 — First Day of School for students in grades 1-5
  • September 12 — Smooth Start for kindergarten students whose last name begins A-L
  • September 13 — Smooth Start for kindergarten students whose last name begins M-Z
  • September 14 — First Day of School for all kindergarten students

Summer Library Program

Battle Creek Elementary will be holding its summer reading program on 5 different Wednesdays throughout Summer 2016.

The library will be open from 9:00–11:00am on each of the following dates…

  • June 29
  • July 6
  • July 13
  • July 20
  • July 27

Come join us this summer for storytelling, to check out books, and to visit with your friends. See you there!
